In the rest of the article, Simon actually states the same you are saying. He explains how the competing software fails compared to Zoom and he explains that is the main reason why people still prefers to use Zoom.

Regarding having a call with people who do not speak English, I do that normally with my family both with Skype and WhatsApp, but Simon clearly explains why those options have not competed with Zoom (actually, WhatsApp is so popular outside the US that they would have had a huge opportunity now, but it does not work on laptops)

So, relax, read the rest of the article, I think you will see that Simon and you agree a lot more than you thought.
